‘A century-old legacy is fading’: Congress MLA urges Sonia Gandhi to appoint Priyanka Gandhi as leader

NEW DELHI: The BJP on Friday alleged that the growing divide between “Team Rahul” and “Team Priyanka” in the Congress has now become visible. The remark came after former Odisha Congress MLA Mohammed Moquim wrote to Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, urging her to replace party president Mallikarjun Kharge, arguing that “age is not on his side.”

Moquim called for giving greater prominence to younger leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and criticised both the state and central leadership. Highlighting what he described as a “deep and widening disconnect” between the Congress leadership and India’s youth, he said the party under 83-year-old Kharge has failed to strike a chord with younger voters.

Sharing the letter on X, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that internal rifts within the Congress were “now out in the open,” summarising Moquim’s message as “Kharge Hatao, Priyanka Lao.”
