Japan Raises Tsunami Alert After Powerful 6.7-Magnitude Quake Strikes Off Iwate Coast.

Japan issued a tsunami warning on Friday after a strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the northern coast, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The tremor, recorded about 130 kilometres from Kuji city in Iwate prefecture on Honshu island, came just days after a 7.5-magnitude quake in the same region left at least 50 people injured.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), which revised its earlier magnitude estimate of 6.5, cautioned that tsunami waves reaching up to one metre (three feet) could impact parts of the northern Pacific coastline. Authorities urged residents in vulnerable coastal zones to stay alert as monitoring continued for potential aftershocks and sea-level changes.
