PM Modi Speaks with Saudi Crown Prince and Jordan, Bahrain Monarchs

Amid the ongoing conflict in the Gulf region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held conversations with Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

The discussions took place even as the first Indian fatality in the U.S.-Israel–Iran conflict was confirmed. The Indian Embassy in Oman announced that an Indian sailor aboard the oil tanker MKD Vyom had died.

The Maritime Security Centre of Oman also confirmed the death on Monday (March 2, 2026), stating that the tanker was struck by an explosive-laden boat northwest of Sultan Qaboos Port. An “outbreak of fire” followed the impact, after which the crew was evacuated.

“India strongly condemns the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia that violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We agreed that the swift restoration of regional peace and stability is of paramount importance,” Mr. Modi said after his conversation with Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. He also expressed gratitude to the Saudi leadership for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian community during these challenging times.

Mr. Modi further announced that he had spoken with King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, thanking him for the “steadfast support extended to the Indian community in Bahrain.” “India condemns the attacks on Bahrain and stands in solidarity with its people during this difficult period,” he added.

The Prime Minister’s telephone conversations with regional leaders came even as the Embassy of India in Oman expressed its “deepest condolences on the tragic demise of an Indian national onboard MKD Vyom.”

“The Embassy is in close coordination with the local authorities in Oman to facilitate the safe and early repatriation of our nationals aboard the vessel. We remain committed to providing all possible assistance in this matter,” it said. Omani officials had earlier announced on Monday (March 2) that the MKD Vyom was struck by an explosive-laden boat.

The Embassy also stated that Indian officials are in “constant touch with Omani authorities” as search operations continue for missing crew members following the incident involving MV Skylight.

“We are coordinating with Omani officials to arrange the repatriation of crew members rescued from MV Skylight and will continue to extend all necessary support,” the Embassy added in its statement.
