No Fuel Shortage in India, Supply Chains Stable: Hardeep Singh Puri Tells Parliament

The government on Thursday stated that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, kerosene, or LPG in the country, assuring that fuel availability remains stable and supply chains are operating smoothly.

Speaking in Parliament, Hardeep Singh Puri said India has sufficient fuel reserves and there is no reason for concern regarding availability.

“There is no shortage of diesel, petrol, or kerosene. Their availability is fully assured, and supply chains across the country are functioning smoothly,” the minister said.

Hardeep Singh Puri added that the overall fuel supply situation in India remains stable and comfortable, with sufficient inventories to meet demand across the country.

The minister also addressed concerns regarding LPG availability, stating that domestic LPG supply remains fully secure despite global geopolitical tensions and disruptions in energy markets.

According to him, India has significantly diversified its energy sourcing in recent years to reduce dependence on any single region.

Earlier, nearly 60% of India’s LPG imports came from Gulf countries, but the government has since broadened its sourcing options to strengthen supply security and lower vulnerability to regional disruptions.

The government’s reassurance comes amid rising concerns over global energy supply disruptions and escalating geopolitical tensions, which have pushed crude oil prices higher and sparked fears of shortages in several markets.

However, authorities maintained that India’s fuel supply chain remains strong, with adequate reserves and diversified import sources to handle potential disruptions.

Officials added that the government is closely monitoring developments in the global energy market and will take necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability across the country.
