HPV vaccine rollout picks up speed in Burhanpur, aiming to vaccinate 9,000 girls.

In the Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh, the HPV vaccine campaign has gained momentum, with many families coming forward to get their daughters vaccinated.

As part of the drive, vaccines are being administered at health centres to protect adolescent girls from Cervical cancer caused by the Human papillomavirus. At the same time, the Health Department is conducting awareness programmes to address myths and misconceptions related to the vaccine.

District Immunisation Officer Y.B. Shastri told IANS that Narendra Modi launched the HPV vaccination campaign from Ajmer on February 28, 2026, after which the initiative began expanding across the country.

He added that hesitation among the public and misinformation about the HPV vaccine remain major challenges. To counter these concerns, media workshops and awareness campaigns are being organized.

According to the Health Department, the vaccination drive focuses on adolescent girls aged around 14 years to help protect them from cervical cancer. The campaign will continue in the district for the next three months, with the goal of vaccinating as many eligible girls as possible.

Speaking to IANS, District Immunization Officer Y.B. Shastri said that the HPV vaccination campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will continue for three months. He added that the district aims to vaccinate 9,084 adolescent girls who have completed 14 years of age.

Appealing to residents, he urged people to ignore misconceptions surrounding vaccination, stressing that the purpose of every vaccine is to strengthen the body’s ability to fight diseases.

He said the HPV vaccine is highly effective in improving the body’s immunity – by about 99.7 percent – and plays an important role in preventing cervical cancer while having very minimal side effects.

Shastri further explained that the HPV virus is responsible for cervical cancer, which is the second most fatal form of cancer in the country. He added that once administered, the vaccine can provide protection for up to 10 years.
