All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday urged the Centre to push for Pakistan’s return to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, a day after senior bureaucrat Vivek Aggarwal was elected vice president of the global anti-money laundering watchdog.
“Vivek Aggarwal is the first Indian to have been elected Vice President of FATF. What the @narendramodi government must do is bring Pakistan back on the grey list,” Owaisi said in a post on X.
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) places countries on its grey list if they are considered to pose a higher risk of financial crimes, including money laundering and terror financing.
Pakistan was added to the grey list in June 2018 before being removed in October 2022.
Owaisi also called for the United Nations to designate The Resistance Front (TRF) as a terrorist organization, arguing that the group’s designation by the United States alone has “no real use.”
Owaisi said the United Nations should designate The Resistance Front (TRF) as a terrorist organization and urged the center to push for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to be listed as well.
“A UN listing of TRF is needed. The Modi government should have, and must, try to get the ISI listed too. We must remember the Red Fort suicide blast of November 2025,” the Hyderabad MP said.
Earlier, the United States designated TRF, which it described as a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba linked to the April 2025 Pahalgam attack, as a global terrorist organization.
Meanwhile, Union Culture Secretary Vivek Aggarwal was elected vice president of the FATF at the conclusion of the watchdog’s plenary meeting in Paris. Aggarwal previously headed India’s delegation to the international anti-money laundering body.
India has been a member of the FATF since 2010.
