An Israeli drone carried out a strike in the Nabatiyeh region of southern Lebanon on Saturday, according to Lebanon’s state news agency. The attack occurred just one day after Israel and Lebanon officially finalized a US-brokered security agreement intended to ease tensions along their shared border.
The incident has sparked concerns over the durability of the newly reached arrangement even before it takes effect. In recent months, the Israel-Lebanon border has seen frequent cross-border exchanges of fire, with much of the violence involving the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
There was no immediate response from the Israeli military regarding the reported drone strike, and details about the extent of the damage or any casualties were not immediately available.
The security arrangement was announced on Friday after four days of US-mediated negotiations in Washington, D.C. Following the talks, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the agreement as an important first step toward broader efforts to promote stability and reduce tensions in the region.
“It marks the start of a longer process,” Rubio said, while acknowledging that considerable challenges still lie ahead. “There is a great deal of work to be done. We fully recognize the complexity of the task, but we also understand how important it is.”
The negotiations involved representatives from both Israel and Lebanon, though Hezbollah did not take part in the discussions.

The latest drone strike comes amid broader regional tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. The continued violence in Lebanon has further complicated diplomatic efforts to uphold the ceasefire framework announced after the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 17. The agreement was intended to de-escalate military activity across multiple fronts, including Lebanon, but renewed hostilities have raised concerns about its effectiveness.
Analysts caution that any renewed escalation along the Israel-Lebanon border could further weaken ongoing efforts to preserve regional stability and reduce tensions.
