Truck-sleeper bus collision in Karnataka’s Chitradurga leaves 11 dead, many injured

A tragic road accident in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district left 11 people dead and several others injured after a truck collided with a private sleeper bus during the early hours of the day. The crash occurred on a busy highway stretch when most passengers on the bus were asleep, making the impact even more devastating.

Initial information suggests that the truck lost control and entered the opposite lane, crashing into the sleeper bus with great force. The collision caused severe damage to the bus, trapping some passengers inside and triggering panic among others who managed to escape. The sudden impact left little time for passengers to react.

Soon after the accident, police, emergency responders, and local residents rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations. The injured were shifted to nearby government and private hospitals for treatment. Doctors said several victims sustained serious injuries, and their condition continues to be monitored closely.

Traffic on the highway was temporarily disrupted as rescue teams worked to clear the wreckage and restore movement. Authorities cordoned off the area to ensure safe evacuation and prevent further mishaps.

Police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the cause of the accident. Preliminary findings point to possible overspeeding or driver error, though officials said a detailed inquiry is underway to establish the exact sequence of events.

Senior officials expressed grief over the loss of lives and assured that strict action will be taken if negligence is confirmed. The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety, night-time travel, and heavy vehicle movement on highways, underscoring the need for stronger enforcement and preventive measures.
