Delhi Told to Continue Pollution Control Measures as Western Disturbance May Worsen Weather

Authorities have advised Delhi to continue strict pollution control measures as an approaching western disturbance is expected to impact weather conditions and could further deteriorate air quality in the national capital.

Weather experts have warned that changing atmospheric conditions linked to the western disturbance may lead to low wind speeds and temperature fluctuations, creating conditions that allow pollutants to remain trapped near the surface. Such weather patterns often worsen smog levels, especially during winter months.

In response, officials have urged the continuation of existing pollution curbs, including restrictions on construction activity, dust-control measures, and tighter checks on industrial emissions and vehicular pollution. The aim is to prevent a sharp spike in air pollution during the period of unfavourable weather.

Delhi has been battling fluctuating air quality levels, with residents frequently experiencing hazy skies and breathing discomfort. Environmental authorities stress that early preventive action is crucial to avoid emergency situations that could impact public health, particularly for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.

The western disturbance is also expected to bring cloudy skies and light rainfall in some parts of north India. While rainfall can help settle dust particles, experts caution that the overall impact on air quality will depend on wind movement and temperature trends over the coming days.

Officials have appealed to residents to cooperate by reducing unnecessary vehicle use, following pollution guidelines, and adopting eco-friendly practices. They emphasized that collective efforts, combined with timely weather-based planning, are essential to manage Delhi’s recurring air pollution challenge.

Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored, and pollution control measures will be adjusted based on real-time weather updates and air quality data.
