A devastating fire incident on the Tatanagar-Ernakulam Express in Andhra Pradesh led to the death of one passenger after two coaches were engulfed in flames, triggering panic among hundreds of travellers and disrupting rail traffic on the busy route.

The incident took place in the early hours while the train was passing through Anakapalli district. Passengers reported noticing smoke inside one of the coaches, which soon turned into a major blaze. Within a short span, the fire spread to an adjacent coach, forcing the train staff to halt the train immediately and alert emergency services.

Railway personnel and passengers worked together to evacuate people from the affected coaches. Many travellers escaped safely, but amid the smoke and confusion, one elderly passenger was unable to get out in time and lost his life. Authorities later confirmed the fatality after rescue teams completed a thorough search of the coaches.

Fire engines, police teams, and railway officials rushed to the scene and carried out firefighting and rescue operations for several hours. The flames were eventually brought under control, and the area was secured to prevent further risk. The two damaged coaches were detached from the train, while safety inspections were conducted on the remaining compartments.

The incident caused temporary disruption to train services on the route, with several trains being delayed. Railway authorities arranged assistance and alternative travel options for affected passengers and ensured that those stranded received necessary support.

Senior railway officials visited the site to assess the situation and ordered a detailed inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire. Initial indications point toward a technical or electrical issue, but officials have said a final conclusion will be drawn only after a full investigation.

The tragic incident has renewed concerns about passenger safety, fire detection systems, and emergency preparedness on long-distance trains. Authorities have assured that lessons from the incident will be used to strengthen safety measures and prevent such accidents in the future.
