A day after NEET UG 2026 was cancelled following allegations of a paper leak, the matter has now reached the Supreme Court, with the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) filing a fresh petition seeking sweeping reforms in the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The petition urged the Centre to either replace the NTA entirely or significantly restructure the agency responsible for conducting national-level entrance examinations.
NEET UG 2026, conducted on May 3, was cancelled following allegations of a question paper leak and other irregularities during the examination process. Over 22 lakh students had appeared for the nationwide medical entrance exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has since announced that the test will be conducted again.
The case is currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The petition, filed by advocate Tanvi Dubey, urged the Supreme Court to directly oversee the re-examination process through a committee headed by a retired apex court judge.
It also proposed that the panel include experts such as a cyber security specialist and a forensic scientist. According to the plea, the committee should supervise the entire examination process to ensure there are no further leaks or irregularities.
Additionally, the petition sought directions for stronger digital security measures during examinations. It recommended the use of “digital locking” systems for question papers and a gradual transition to computer-based testing to minimise risks associated with the physical transportation of exam papers.
The petition also sought directions for the CBI to submit a status report before the court within four weeks, detailing the alleged paper leak network, arrests made so far, charges filed, and the overall progress of the investigation.
It further urged the NTA to publish centre-wise NEET UG 2026 results in order to identify any unusual score patterns and enhance transparency in the examination process.
What Is FAIMA?
The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) is a national organization representing doctors and medical professionals across India.
The body has backed demands for reforms in the existing examination system, arguing that NEET and other large-scale entrance tests require a more secure and technologically advanced framework.
Following the cancellation of NEET UG 2026, FAIMA also called for stricter oversight of the re-examination process.
