In another alleged exam paper leak case in Maharashtra, the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) scheduled for Sunday has been postponed after the question paper reportedly surfaced nearly 24 hours before the examination.
In an official statement issued on Saturday, the Maharashtra State Examination Council announced that the TET 2026 exam, originally scheduled for June 28 at 1,028 centres across the state, has been deferred to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the examination process.
According to the Maharashtra State Examination Council, Bhiwandi Police acted on confidential information received early Saturday morning and conducted a raid at a location where several individuals were allegedly found with pages from a sealed TET 2026 question paper packet. Officials from the council were immediately called to verify the recovered material, following which a criminal case was registered at the Bhiwandi Police Station.
Earlier, sources told NDTV that the alleged leaked question paper had surfaced in Maharashtra’s Thane region nearly 24 hours before the scheduled examination. Acting on a tip-off, police recovered the question paper during a search operation and detained several individuals for questioning. Their identities have not yet been made public.
The Maharashtra State Examination Council said the examination was postponed to ensure a fair and transparent testing process while allowing authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the alleged paper leak.
Around 4.28 lakh teacher aspirants from across the state were scheduled to appear for the TET on Sunday. The postponement has left thousands of candidates waiting for a fresh examination date, which the council said will be announced through its official website.
The alleged leak comes just months after a similar incident in 2025, when the TET question paper was reportedly leaked in Kolhapur.
Meanwhile, Nagpur District Primary Education Officer Nilesh Gund told NDTV Marathi over the phone that he had not received any official communication regarding the cancellation or postponement of the examination in Nagpur. He added that, at the time of his statement, he had no confirmed information about reports of a paper leak or the cancellation of the examination in other parts of Maharashtra.
Police have launched an investigation to determine how the question paper was leaked and whether additional individuals were involved in the alleged racket.
