The high-speed corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time across Uttar Pradesh while opening up new opportunities in logistics, industry, and agriculture. It will also connect 12 districts into a faster and more integrated economic network.
Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway, a major infrastructure project linking Meerut to Prayagraj, officials said. The high-speed corridor is set to improve connectivity across Uttar Pradesh while driving industrial investment, strengthening logistics, supporting agricultural markets, and promoting regional development.
The expressway connects 12 districts -Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj – and is expected to sharply cut travel time while ensuring faster and safer movement of both people and goods.
Speaking at the inauguration in Hardoi, Narendra Modi described the Ganga Expressway as a transformative project for the state’s growth. “Just as the Ganga has been the lifeline of Uttar Pradesh for thousands of years, this expressway will similarly become a new lifeline for the state’s development,” he said.
CM Calls Project a Catalyst for Growth
Yogi Adityanath said in a post on X that the inauguration from Hardoi signals fresh momentum in the state’s development journey. He described the six-lane expressway – expandable to eight lanes – as a “lifeline” linking villages, farmers, entrepreneurs, and youth, adding that it will speed up growth and reduce distances.
Pankaj Chaudhary, Union Minister and BJP Uttar Pradesh president, also welcomed the inauguration, calling it one of the longest expressways in the country and a major infrastructure milestone for the state.
Key Design, Safety and Strategic Features
Built under a public-private partnership model, the project features a six-lane corridor with provisions for expansion to eight lanes and a design speed of 120 kmph. It also includes a 3.2-km airstrip near Shahjahanpur, designed to enable emergency landings by the Indian Air Force.
The expressway is equipped with an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), along with CCTV surveillance, emergency call boxes, ambulances, and patrol units to improve commuter safety.
Boost to Industry and Economic Growth
Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Clusters (IMLCs) planned along the route will feature warehouses, cold storage units, and food processing hubs, aimed at attracting investment and creating jobs.
Officials said the expressway will link up with major corridors such as the Purvanchal, Agra–Lucknow, Bundelkhand, and Gorakhpur Link expressways, forming an extensive transport network. The project is expected to create large-scale employment and play a key role in Uttar Pradesh’s ambition of becoming a trillion-dollar economy.
According to officials, Narendra Modi arrived in Hardoi around 11 am, inaugurated the expressway, visited an exhibition by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority, planted saplings, and addressed a public gathering before leaving in the afternoon.
