Rahul Gandhi on Monday criticised former Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, who stepped down last week, describing him as “compromised” and alleging that the Janata Dal (United) leader’s past actions allowed the Bharatiya Janata Party to exercise complete control over him.
Rahul Gandhi launched his attack on Nitish Kumar – now a Rajya Sabha MP – while addressing an election rally in Thoothukudi.
He alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party was able to remove Nitish as Chief Minister because he was “compromised,” adding that he remained silent after being sent to the Rajya Sabha. Nitish, the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar, resigned on April 14, just days after winning the Rajya Sabha election from the state.
Without naming the Janata Dal (United) leader, Gandhi said that recent developments in Bihar showed how the chief minister was replaced by a BJP leader, alleging it happened because he was compromised and chose not to speak out, instead quietly moving to the Rajya Sabha.
Citing Bihar as an example, Rahul Gandhi voiced similar concerns for Tamil Nadu, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party aims to install a government it can fully control.
He said that past actions had allowed the BJP to exercise complete control in Bihar, and warned that the party was attempting to replicate the same in Tamil Nadu by seeking a chief minister who would act strictly on its directions – something he asserted would be strongly opposed.
