Will the new Income Tax website make it easier for you to file your returns?

The new portal brings all income tax services and information under one roof. The department says it’s designed for easier navigation, quicker access, and a more straightforward experience to help taxpayers handle forms, rules, and procedures with less confusion.

The Income Tax Department has taken another step to simplify and enhance the tax filing experience. On April 2, it introduced a new AI-powered platform called ‘Kar Saathi’, designed to help taxpayers easily navigate income tax processes.

A simpler, smarter way to manage your taxes

The new platform consolidates all income tax information into one place. According to the department, it offers smoother navigation, quicker access, and a simplified experience to help taxpayers better understand forms, rules, and procedures.

In a post shared on X on April 2, the Income Tax Department announced the launch of its new website, highlighting that it is easier to navigate and faster to use. The platform brings all income tax-related information together in one place and introduces ‘Kar Saathi’, an AI-powered assistant designed to simplify users’ direct tax journeys.

What is Kar Saathi?

Kar Saathi is a built-in digital assistant on the new website, created to answer queries, provide step-by-step guidance, and simplify tasks such as filing returns or understanding tax rules.

Its goal is to make tax compliance less stressful, especially for individuals who may not be familiar with technical terminology or online systems.

New tax law takes effect

The platform’s launch coincides with a significant overhaul of India’s tax system. From April 1, 2026, the new Income-tax Act, 2025 has officially come into effect.

In a post on X, the Income Tax Department stated, “From April 1, 2026, the Income-tax Act, 2025 comes into force, ushering in a simpler, clearer, and more user-friendly direct tax framework.”

With updated rules and simplified forms already notified, officials say this signals a new phase in India’s direct tax system, aligning with the broader goal of creating a more efficient and modern economy.
