Woman dies after falling into drain following Delhi bridge collapse

A woman drowned after falling into a drain when a foot overbridge collapsed in north Delhi’s Roop Nagar area on Tuesday (March 17) morning. The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said it received a call about the collapse around 9:30 am, following reports that a woman had fallen into the drain beneath the structure. Multiple fire tenders were dispatched to the site, and her body was recovered by rescue teams around 11:30 am.

Officials said the woman was on the bridge at the time of the collapse and fell into the drain below. Rescue operations were carried out by teams from the NDRF, Delhi Police, and other emergency services, but she could not be saved.

Authorities have sealed off the area to prevent further incidents and support ongoing rescue operations.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, and a detailed inspection will be conducted once rescue operations are completed.

Meanwhile, AAP leader and former minister Saurabh Bharadwaj shared a video of the incident on X, stating that an iron bridge had collapsed in Roop Nagar, Delhi, with reports of casualties. The video shows the structure caved into a drain, with a large portion submerged and difficult to access.
